Volunteer Opportunities Available

  • Administrative Assistants
  • Fundraisers

FundraisersVital to our ability to provide nutritious food to our neighbors in need, we conduct two main fundraisers and two smaller ones:

    1) Run for Food 5k run/walk on Thanksgiving Day.
Volunteers are needed for marketing, sponsor relations, raffle management, participant management, t-shirt management, course set-up/monitors/sweep, finish line/results management, awards management, photography and clean up. Late November is very cold, especially at 8:45am! So sign up, bundle up and join us for this spirited event.

    2) North State Giving Tuesday.
Held the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, this social media based fundraiser allows for donor dollars to grow with incentive pool funds from Shasta Regional Community Foundation. We would appreciate anyone with social media expertise to join us the day of the event, from 6am to 6pm to keep the interest fresh with hourly posts. Preparation involves photo collection throughout the year, which we try to do. Great imagination and a big heart for what we do will add to your effectiveness on our team.

    3) Spring Bake Sale
Held in front of a busy local grocery store, we use the opportunity to discuss our services and make valuable connections. What gets everyone to the table is the sight of beautiful baked goods and the smell of coffee! If you like to bake or can make some nutritious gluten free savories, we would appreciate your help!

Several different projects are done throughout the year that may be of interest to you. All are in need of volunteers.

    1) Summer Lunch program benefits children 18 & under. The meals have to be prepared, packaged, transported, distributed and the sites cleaned. Also, teams are welcome to lead enrichment activities for the kids. This project is fun, and allows kids who normally get meals at school to be nourished properly over the Summer break.

    2) Thanksgiving Box Distribution.
Every year we provide the ingredients for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to be prepared at home. This is the only distribution of it's kind in South Siskiyou County, and we've been doing it for 15 years. Preparation involves food ordering, transportation, unloading at site, setting up assembly tables, and box assembly prior to distribution day. This year we will be using a drive-thru format, so registration and box delivery will be needed in our parking lot. Then there is always clean-up. If you would like to make many local families very happy, try this out!

  • Roll Over Team
    Roll Over Team

Our service area includes the busy Interstate 5 corridor, and our Winter road conditions can catch drivers by surprise. Occasionally there is an opportunity to harvest food from these unfortunate incidents. We would appreciate having a team of residents willing to be notified of the need to distribute this food within a few days. This free supply benefits local families, schools, other food banks, resource centers, senior meals, tribal communities, AND our volunteers! Different skills sets are appreciated. Don't be shy - throw your name in this hat!!
